Now, according to a report in New Scientist, the US Department of Defense's Joint Non-Lethal Weapons Directorate (JNLWD) in Quantico, Virginia is developing a pulsed laser designed to prevent eye damage.
Other subjects include pulsed laser deposited ZnO for thin film transistor applications, fabrication and characterization of semiconducting ZnO nanofiber for advanced environmental sensing, and ZnO nanostructures and thin layers for device applications.
Pulsing is also important in other clinical applications, such as eye surgery, because the pulsed laser energy can be used for ablation before the surrounding tissue gets a chance to heat up and possibly become damaged.
