A temporary projection of the cytoplasm of certain cells or of certain unicellular organisms, especially amoebas, that serves in locomotion and phagocytosis.

Etymology: Gk, pseudes, false, pous, foot
a temporary cytoplasmic process of an ameba that can be extended to propel the organism or to engulf food. Also called pseudopodium.
