Pseudechis /Pseud·ech·is/ (soo-dek´is) a genus of venomous Australian snakes of the family Elapidae. P. porphyria´cus is the Australian blacksnake.
Pseudechis a genus of venomous snakes. Pseudechis australis the mulga or king brown snake with a highly poisonous neurotoxin. A brassy red-brown color with a cream and orange belly and up to 10 ft long. Pseudechis papuanus Papuan black snake. A highly poisonous but unaggressive black snake with a blue-gray belly and gray underthroat and up to 8 ft long. Pseudechis porphyriacus the red-bellied black snake. A purple-black snake with a pink-white belly up to 8 ft long. Not aggressive and has a poison of relatively low neurotoxicity but has a high content of hemolysin and hemorrhagic factor.
