Coccidia /Coc·cid·ia/ (kok-sid´e-ah) a subclass of parasitic protozoa comprising the orders Agamococcidiida, Protococcidiida, and Eucoccidiida. coccidia /coc·cid·ia/ (kok-sid´e-ah) plural of coccidium.
Coccidia, a subclass of parasitic protozoa found in humans, other vertebrates, and some invertebrates. Among the species of coccidians pathogenic to humans is Cyclospora cayetanensis. See also coccidiosis. Coccidia a group of sporozoa in the family Eimeriidae commonly parasitic in epithelial cells of the intestinal tract, but also found in the liver and other organs; it includes three genera, eimeria, isospora and cystoisospora. coccidia plural of coccidium.
