PLAB test

Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board test. A test which is the main route by which overseas doctors (International Medical Graduates—IMGs) demonstrate that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to practise medicine in the UK. It is a two-part exam administered by the General Medical Council (GMC), which is between finals and postgraduate examinations in level of difficulty. Most medical graduates from outside the EU must take the PLAB test before they can be granted registration. Some overseas doctors are exempt.
