may be a research degree, e.g. PhD, or a course-work masterate with a vocational bias, or any combination of these. Oriented towards a research career, or a vocational one.

clinical posts in teaching hospitals, usually at university veterinary schools, which include a large segment of in-service training. An essential step for veterinarians contemplating academic careers in the clinical sciences or eventual registration as a specialist. Mostly of 2 years' duration; some have an incorporated diploma or course-work masterate achievable by examination at the end of the internship.
postgraduate professional education
continuing education, usually structured to provide a continuum of training in a particular segment of professional work, e.g. companion animal medicine and surgery.
