Portuguese water dog
a medium-sized, well-muscled dog with characteristic swimming and fishing traits. The coat is profuse and may be either long, loosely waved, or short, harsh and curled. In addition, the dog may be shown with a lion clip, which involves short clipping of the mid-body, hindquarters, muzzle and tail, except the tip; or a working-retriever clip in which the coat is trimmed evenly to a length of about 1 inch over the whole body, except at the end of the tail where it is left full length. Called also Portuguese fishing dog.
