polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs)
[-klôr′inā′tid]
a group of more than 30 isomeric compounds used in plastics, insulation, and flame retardants and varying in physical form from oily liquids to crystals and resins. All are potentially toxic and carcinogenic. The toxicity varies with the type of PCB and concurrent exposure to other substances, such as carbon tetrachloride. Mild exposure may cause chloracne; severe exposure may result in hepatic damage.

There have been some reports of declines in male fertility due to factors like exposure to polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) and other environmental contaminants and to pesticides.
DECEMBER 1: CONFIRMATION the sample showed presence of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs), a key indicator of cancer-causing dioxins, in pork fat.
Pollution was becoming an issue then and Greenpeace stated that substances like polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) that were impossible to neutralise should be banned from manufacture.
