An asymmetrical deformity of the skull due to premature closure of the lambdoid and coronal sutures on one side.

plagiocephaly (plāˈ·jē··seˑ·f·lē),
n a medical condition occurring in infants; distinguished by the reshaped, flattened, or deformed appearance of the skull. It develops as a result of constant pressure being placed on one area of the thin and flexible skull of the infant. Can be corrected if treated early; techniques involving direct cranial molding often provide the best results.

plagiocephaly (plā´jēōsef´lē),
n a condition characterized by an asymmetrical skull with flat spots. Temporomandibular joint disorder, as well as auditory and visual disturbances, may result if left untreated. If diagnosed during infancy, the condition can be treated with cranial orthotics.
