a set of vessels (arteries and capillaries) that carry blood and regulatory hormones from the hypothalamus to the adenohypophysis, where the target cells of the releasing hormones are located.

hypophyseal, hypophysial

pertaining to the hypophysis (pituitary).

hypophyseal base

the pars tuberalis and the infundibular stalk of the pituitary gland.

hypophyseal portal system

the vascular anatomy of the pituitary gland which provides the route for hypothalamic regulating hormones to enter and control the secretion of the adenohypophyseal hormones.

the hypothalamus, the pituitary gland and the hypophyseoportal circulation.
