pioglitazone /pi·o·glit·a·zone/ (pi″o-glit´ah-zōn) an antidiabetic agent that decreases insulin resistance in the peripheral tissues and liver; used as the hydrochloride salt in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus.
pioglitazone, an oral antidiabetic. indication It is used to treat stable type 2 diabetes mellitus. contraindications Lactation, diabetic ketoacidosis, and known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibit its use. It is also contraindicated in children. adverse effects Common adverse effects include myalgia, sinusitis, upper respiratory infection, pharyngitis, headache, and aggravated diabetes mellitus. pioglitazone [pi″o-glit´ah-zōn] an agent used in treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitis, decreasing insulin resistance in the peripheral tissues and liver, used orally as the hydrochloride salt.
