brine
a salt solution used in the curing of meat. Standard ingredients are sodium chloride (15 to 30%) and sodium nitrate (0.15 to 1.50%) but many other ingredients may be added for special effects.

brine shrimp
see artemia.
brine staining
caused by leaky pipes carrying coolant in meat storage cold rooms. The coolant is usually calcium chloride and the stain is a pale green.

For the potatoe salad, boil 4 medium potatoes, hard boil 3 eggs, chop the potatoes, eggs (slice one egg for top of salad), a dill or kosher dill pickle, 1/4 onion (finely chopped), add in 1 tsp sugar, 1 tsp salt, 1/4 tsp pepper, 1/4 cup mayo and 4 Tbls yellow mustard, 1 tsp pickle juice.
Pickle Juice designs was founded 3 years ago by owner and designer Robyn Rosenbloom.
Although considered an urban-legend remedy, some athletes swear that drinking pickle juice or pinching the upper lip or nostril are an effective in alleviating muscle cramps.
