Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS) is an emerging infectious disease that is caused by a novel phlebovirus
in the Bunyaviridae family.
RVF is caused by the mosquito-borne phlebovirus
, also belonging to the family Bunyaviridae.
Intensive study revealed that the agent involved was a phlebovirus
of the Bunyaviridae family similar to one recently identified in China called severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus, or SFTSV.
Sandflies are also vectors of many viruses belonging to three different genera: (i) the Phlebovirus
(family Bunyaviridae) including sandfly fever Sicilian virus (SFSV) (1), sandfly fever Naples virus (SFNV) (1), and Toscana virus (TOSV) (1); (ii) the Vesiculovirus (11-12); and (iii) the Orbivirus (13).
Working with state and local partners, CDC eventually identified the cause of the men's illness: a previously unknown virus in the phlebovirus
family now dubbed Heartland virus.
They are also suspected vectors of a recently recognized phlebovirus
that caused two hemorrhagic fever cases in Missouri.
Scientists know that this particular bug is a phlebovirus
, a family that also includes the mouse-spread hantavirus.
Insanlarda enfeksiyon olusturan arbovirusler arasinda bes cins virus grubu bulunmaktadir; Bunyavirus, Hantavirus, Nairovirus, Phlebovirus
They cover the molecular biology of the five genera orthobunyavirus, hantavirus, phlebovirus
, nairovirus, and tospovirus; the genetics and evolution of hantaviruses; and Bunhaviridae infections and their diagnosistics in all the genera but tospovirus.
The new pathogen turned out to be a phlebovirus
in the Bunyaviridae family, a group that includes other human pathogens, such as the virus responsible for Rift Valley fever.
Orthobunyavirus, Nairovirus, Phlebovirus
, Hantavirus and Tospovirus in addition to several unassigned viruses.
Today, one such zoonotic disease, Rift Valley fever--the work of a Phlebovirus
microbe (see page 11)--is still a half a world away, a scourge in Africa and some parts of the Middle East.
