Either of a pair of compound bones forming the sides and base of the skull.

temporal bone,
n one of a pair of large bones forming part of the inferior portion of the cranium and containing various cavities and recesses associated with the ear. Each temporal bone consists of four portions: the mastoid, the squama, the petrous, and the tympanic.
