Petechiae
Tiny purple or red spots on the skin associated with endocarditis, resulting from hemorrhages under the skin's surface.

Etymology: It, petecchie, flea-bites
numerous tiny purple or red spots appearing on the skin as a result of tiny hemorrhages within the dermal or submucosal layers. Petechiae range from pinpoint to pinhead size and are flush with the surface. Compare ecchymosis. petechial, adj.

petechiae (ptē´kēā),
n.pl a condition in which capillary hemorrhages produce small red or purplish pinpoint discolorations of the mucous membrane and skin. Petechiae are typical of blood dyscrasias, vitamin C deficiency, positive Rumpel-Leede test, liver disease, and bacterial endocarditis. Palatal lesions are noted in mononucleosis.
