pericyte /peri·cyte/ (per´ĭ-sīt) one of the elongated, contractile cells found wrapped about precapillary arterioles outside the basement membrane.

This pathway is believed to damage Schwann cells, causing neuropathy, and pericytes in the retinal capillaries, causing retinal microaneurysms.
