pelvic exenteration

1. surgical removal of the inner organs; evisceration.
2. in ophthalmology, removal of the entire contents of the orbit.

pelvic exenteration  excision of the organs and adjacent structures of the pelvis.

Pelvic exenteration
Extensive surgery to remove the uterus, ovaries, pelvic lymph nodes, part or all of the vagina, and the bladder, rectum, and/or part of the colon.

pelvic exenteration
[eksen′tərā′shən]
the surgical removal of all reproductive organs and their lymph nodes and en bloc removal of the rectum, distal sigmoid colon, urinary bladder, distal ureters, internal iliac vessels, entire pelvic floor with accompanying pelvic peritoneum, levator muscles, and perineum. Pelvic exenteration is the preferred treatment for recurrent or persistent carcinoma of the cervix after radiation therapy.
