pause (pawz) an interruption or rest.
compensatory pause the pause in impulse generation after an extrasystole, either full if the sinus node is not reset or incomplete or noncompensatory if the node is reset and the cycle length is disrupted. sinus pause a transient interruption in the sinus rhythm, of a duration that is not an exact multiple of the normal cardiac cycle.
pause [pawz] an interruption or rest. compensatory pause the period following a premature ventricular contracture, which causes the R-R cycles of the premature and normal beats to equal the length of two normal beats when added together.
