An alphanumeric code that pertains to a specific person or group of persons, which is used to access a locked information system.

Most sources usually offer the same basic advice: don't share, don't repeat, don't use words easily found in a dictionary, use numbers, use substitutions (1 for L, @ for A, + for t), use symbols (# or * or &), change your pass-words often, and don't put them on a sticky note pasted to the side of your computer or under the keyboard.
AVOID obvious pass-words such as family names or birthdays and never use the same password for more than one account.
