a long, slender, superficial fusiform muscle of the forearm, lying on the medial side of the flexor carpi radialis that functions to flex the hand. Compare flexor carpi radialis, flexor carpi ulnaris.

Medial to it, two prominent tendons extend toward the palmar aspect of the hand--the tendon of the flexor carpi radialis muscle is lateral, and the tendon of the palmaris longus muscle is medial.
