PUM2

PUM2

A gene on chromosome 2p22-p21 that encodes a sequence-specific RNA-binding protein that regulates translation and mRNA stability by binding the 3'-UTR of mRNA targets. PUM2 may support stem cell proliferation and self-renewal by regulating translation of key transcripts. It is highly expressed in the testes and ovaries, predominantly in germ cells and stem cells; it is downregulated in keratinocytes in response to UVB irradiation.

P2P-R expression is genetically coregulated with components of the translation machinery and with PUM2, a translational repressor that associates with the P2P-R mRNA.
