heterosis /het·er·o·sis/ (het″er-o´sis) the existence, in the first generation hybrid, of greater vigor than is shown by either parent strain.
heterosis [het′ərō′sis] Etymology: Gk, heteros + osis, condition the superiority of first-generation hybrid plants and animals with respect to one or more traits when compared with either of the parent strains or with corresponding inbred strains.
