ounce (oz) (ouns) a measure of weight. In the avoirdupois system, 116 lb, 28.3495 g, or 437.5 grains; in the apothecaries' system, 112 lb, 31.03 g, or 480 grains.
fluid ounce  (fl oz) a unit of liquid measure of the apothecaries' system; in the United States it is one-sixteenth of a pint, or 29.57 mL. In Great Britain, (imperial ounce), it is one-twentieth of an (imperial) pint, or 28.41 mL.

1. A unit of weight in the US Customary System, an avoirdupois unit equal to 437.5 grains or 28.35 grams.
2. A unit of apothecary weight equal to 480 grains or 31.10 grams.
