orphenadrine citrate [ôrfen′ədrēn] a skeletal muscle relaxant with anticholinergic and antihistaminic activity. indication It is prescribed in the treatment of severe muscle strain. contraindications Myasthenia gravis, glaucoma or other contraindications to anticholinergic agents, or known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects Among the most serious adverse effects are those associated with anticholinergic activity, such as dry mouth and tachycardia, and allergic reactions. orphenadrine citrate (ôrfen´ n brand names: Banflex, Flexoject, Norflex, Orflagen; drug class: skeletal muscle relaxant, central acting; action: acts centrally to depress polysynaptic pathways to relax skeletal muscle, inhibit muscle spasm; uses: pain in musculoskeletal conditions.
