J-Shaped Sella A term referring to the appearance of the sella turcia which extends under anterior clinoid process and looks like a ‘J’ on its side. It may be rarely seen in normal adult skulls, but is a slightly more common in children (incidence of 5–6%). While it can be a normal anatomic variant, it may be associated with chronic hydrocephalus and raised intracranial pressure, 'gargoylism'—e.g., Morquio's syndrome, Hunter's syndrome and other mucopolysaccharidoses—as well as in glioma of the optic chiasm and 'empty sella syndrome'
J-shaped sella A shallow, elongated or 'boot-shaped' sella turcica with an elongated anterior recess, extending below the anterior clinoid process, classically seen in Hurler's mucopolysaccharidosis, due to accumulation of
