a genus of animals in the family Ochotonidae. Guinea-pig-sized rabbits with short ears found only in rough, high mountain terrain of North America. Called also rock rabbits, mouse hares, calling hares, Ochotona spp.

An ochotonid is tentatively ruled out because of the large size of this tooth, rather than for zoogeographic reasons (Mead 1987; Mead and Grady 1996), as there are two records of fossil pika from Ontario (Churcher and Dods 1979; Savage 1994).
