alkane /al·kane/ (al´kān) any of a class of saturated hydrocarbons with a straight or branched chain structure, of the general formula CnH2n + 2.
alkane, a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon containing no double or triple bonds in the carbon chain, such as propane. Also called paraffin. alkane [al´kān] a saturated hydrocarbon, i.e., one that has no carbon-carbon multiple bonds.
alkane (alˑ·kānˈ), n water-insoluble, saturated hydrocarbon compound, with the general chemical formula CnH2n+2. Hexane (C6H14) is used in the solvent extraction or enfleurage process. See also enfleurage.
