niobium (Nb) [nī·ō′bē·əm] Etymology: Gk, Niobe, mythic daughter of Tantalus and Amphion a silver-gray metallic element. Its atomic number is 41, and its atomic mass is 92.906. Formerly called columbium. niobium (Nb) [ni-o´be-um] a chemical element, atomic number 1, atomic weight 92.906. (See Appendix 6.)
