Neorickettsia /Neo·rick·ett·sia/ (ne″o-rĭ-ket´se-ah) a genus of rickettsiae (tribe Ehrlichieae), including a single species, N. helmin´thoeca. It is found in the salmon fluke (Troglotrema salmincola), a parasite of various fish, especially salmon and trout, and causes hemorrhagic enteritis in those ingesting raw infected fish.
Neorickettsia a genus in the family Anaplasmataceae, order Rickettsiales. Members parasitize intestinal epithelial cells, monocytes and macrophages and are transmitted by ingestion of infected metacercariae of trematodes. Neorickettsia helminthoeca the cause of salmon poisoning in dogs. Neorickettsia risticii the cause of equine intestinal ehrlichiosis; equine monocytic ehrlichiosis. Previously Ehrlichia risticii.
