National Health Applications and Infrastructure Services. A proprietary—CSA Waverley—system implemented across 89 primary care trusts (PCTs) and strategic health authorities (SHAs), managing services, patient registration and demographic details for England, Wales and Northern Ireland. NHAIS is responsible for delivering mission-critical national systems and maintaining 40-plus products and services underpinning key operations in the NHS. NHAIS delivers a wide range of data-intense services, including payments (£8 billion/year) to 42,000 GPs in 8,500 practices handling 59 million Patient Registration records, 6.5 million women seen for breast and cervical screening, 2 billion transactions/year, tracing of 20 million records/month and 240,000 daily updates.
