An organic compound occurring in two isomeric forms, alpha-naphthol and beta-naphthol. Also called naphthalenol.

a phenol occurring in coal tar: α-naphthol (1-hydroxynaphthalene) or β-naphthol (2-hydroxynaphthalene). It has antiseptic properties and is used in compound form as a skin antiseptic.
