naphazoline hydrochloride [nəfaz′əlēn] an adrenergic vasoconstrictor. indications It is prescribed in the treatment of nasal congestion and as an ophthalmic vasoconstrictor to decrease redness and itching. contraindications Glaucoma or known hypersensitivity to this drug or abnormal sensitivity to sympathomimetic drugs prohibits its use. adverse effects Among the most serious adverse effects are those associated with systemic absorption, including sedation and cardiovascular effects. Irritation to mucosa and rebound congestion also may occur. naphazoline hydrochloride A sympathomimetic vasoconstrictor, which may be used as a topical decongestant in 0.1% eyedrops.
