2) Macrocyclic Lactone injections (ivermectin, doramectin, moxidectin etc) - these have become more popular, as they worm as well and are probably better in pregnant sheep (from the point of view of stress).
The development of moxidectin for onchocerciasis is being conducted through a collaboration of the Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases, which is executed by the World Health Organization (WHO/TDR), and Wyeth Pharmaceuticals.
In comparison, if moxidectin proves to be able to neutralise adult worms, it can shorten the treatment period to six years, according to the WHO.
