Othello syndrome
[ōthel′ō]
Etymology: Othello, jealous Shakespearean character
a psychopathologic condition characterized by suspicion of a spouse's infidelity and morbid jealousy. This condition may be accompanied by rage and violence and is frequently associated with paranoia.

People suffering from morbid jealousy tend to be hyper-vigilant, always on the look out for potential threats to their relationship, often they will see a threat where none exists, misinterpreting neutral, and innocuous events as major threats to the relationship.
Examples are extreme interpersonal violence, pathological gambling, idiosyncratic alcohol intoxication, morbid jealousy, and dissociative identity disorder.
One letter he allegedly wrote claimed that Dr Dutt could be suffering from a condition called morbid jealousy and that in his opinion, Dr Dutt would benefit from a psychiatric evaluation.
