CCL2(redirected from Monocyte Chemoattractant Protein 1)
Also found in: Acronyms.
CCL2A gene on chromosome 17q11.2-q21.1 that encodes a protein structurally related to the CXC subfamily of cytokines, which are characterised by two cysteines separated by a single amino acid. CCL2 is chemotactic for monocytes and basophils, but not neutrophils or eosinophils; it binds to chemokine receptors CCR2 and CCR4.
Altered expression of CCL2 has been linked to diseases characterised by monocytic infiltrates—e.g., psoriasis, rheumatoid arthritis, atherosclerosis.
