monobenzone /mono·ben·zone/ (-ben´zōn) a melanin-inhibiting agent used as a topical depigmenting agent in vitiligo. monobenzone [-ben′zōn] a depigmenting agent. indication It is prescribed in final depigmentation in extensive vitiligo. contraindication Known hypersensitivity to this drug prohibits its use. adverse effects The most serious adverse effect is excessive and irreversible hypopigmentation.
