Mongolian gerbil
Meriones unguiculatus; a small rodent, native to desert regions in Mongolia and China, related to the gerbil. Typically has an agouti coat but other colors have been developed. Have fully furred tails, ears and footpads. Called also jird.

The scientific name of Mongolian gerbils is Meriones unguiculatus, which means "little clawed warrior".
PUUV has been serially passaged only in laboratory-bred bank voles (17,19,20), and strains Hallnais and K27 of PUUV cause an asymptomatic persistent infection in Mongolian gerbils (21) and Syrian hamsters (22), respectively.
MY four female Mongolian gerbils have lived together happily for more than 12 months.
