mittelschmerz /mit·tel·schmerz/ (mit´el-shmertz) pain associated with ovulation, usually occurring in the middle of the menstrual cycle.
mit·tel·schmerz (mtl-shmûrts, -shmrts)
n.
Abdominal pain occurring at the time of ovulation, resulting from irritation of the peritoneum by bleeding from the ovulation site. Also called intermenstrual pain.

Etymology: Ger, MITTE, middle, Schmerz, pain
abdominal pain in the region of an ovary during ovulation, usually occurring midway through the menstrual cycle. Present in many women, mittelschmerz is useful for identifying ovulation, thus pinpointing the fertile period of the cycle. Also called intermenstrual pain.

mittelschmerz [mit´el-shmerts] (Ger.)
pain at the time of ovulation, midway between the menstrual periods.
