mitotane /mi·to·tane/ (mi´to-tan) an antineoplastic similar to the insecticide DDT; used for the treatment of inoperable adrenocortical carcinoma. mitotane (mī´t n brand name: Lysodren; drug class: antineoplastic; action: acts on adrenal cortex to suppress activity and adrenal steroid production; use: adrenocortical carcinoma. mitotane an oral chemotherapeutic agent that causes selective necrosis and atrophy of the adrenocortical zona fasciculata and zona reticularis. Used in the treatment of inoperable adrenal cortical carcinoma in humans and in canine Cushing's syndrome. Called also o,p-DDD. |
