Deuteromycota /Deu·tero·my·co·ta/ (-mi-ko´tah) the Fungi Imperfecti; a large heterogeneous group of fungi, ordinarily treated as a division, whose sexual stage does not exist or has not yet been discovered; subclassification is in form-classes, form-orders, etc., until their sexual stage is identified.
Deuteromycota
the phylum of fungi known as Fungi Imperfecti, containing Cryptococcus, Candida and some Microsporum and Trichophyton spp.

The phylogenetic species concept has led to a better understanding of the lineage of pathogenic fungi, especially for the mitosporic fungi, which have no known sexual stage.
The species is not likely to be confused with other parasitic species of mitosporic fungi on Diospyros in the USA.
