glycol /gly·col/ (gli´kol) any of a group of aliphatic dihydric alcohols, having marked hygroscopic properties and useful as solvents and plasticizers.

polyethylene /poly·eth·y·lene/ (-eth´ĭ-lēn) polymerized ethylene, (—CH2—CH2—)n, a synthetic plastic material, forms of which have been used in reparative surgery.
polyethylene glycol  (PEG) a generic name for mixtures of condensation polymers of ethylene oxide and water, available in liquid form (polymers with average molecular weights between 200 and 700) or as waxy solids (average molecular weights above 1000); some are used as pharmaceutic aids, and p. glycol 3350 is used as a laxative.

Any of a family of high molecular weight compounds that can be liquid or waxlike in consistency, are soluble in water and in many organic solvents, and are used in detergents and as emulsifiers and plasticizers.

one of the better monofilament fibers because of its good handling, low capillarity, high tensile strength and longevity in tissue. It has only moderate knot-holding capacity.
