MEWS

A simple triaging tool used by emergency medical services, especially in the UK, to quickly assess a person’s risk of death, based on 4 physiologic parameters (systolic blood pressure, heart rate, respiratory rate, temperature) and a mini-Glasgow score, in which a first responder determines the person’s level of consciousness based on AVPU: Alert, responds to Voice, responds to Pain, Unresponsive. A score of 5 is associated with an increased risk of death and an indication for immediate admission to ITU/ICU.
