1. a characteristic of freshly killed meat. Weight loss occurs because of evaporation of moisture from cut surfaces. Humidity of the chilling chamber determines how much shrinkage there is.
2. loss of body weight when live animals are exposed to bad weather, deprivation of feed and water, transportation or mixing with another group.
