Meles
a genus of small (3 ft long, 35 lb weight) mammals in the family Mustelidae. It includes Meles meles, the common (Eurasian) badger, and Meles anakuma, the Japanese badger. They are omnivorous, walk on all fours, massively built, placid, live in a burrow, and are grayish in color with two black stripes starting on the face and running over the top of the head to the back. There are also badgers in other genera, e.g. Taxidea taxus, the American badger.
