Medical Tourism
A term coined by travel agencies and the mass media for the practice of travelling across national borders to obtain health care. It also refers to the practice of healthcare providers travelling internationally to deliver healthcare, which is both pejorative and less common.

There are many reasons for the increased popularity of international medical travel services including exorbitant healthcare costs in industrialised nations, long waiting lists for surgery, the ease and affordability of international travel, favourable currency exchange rates in foreign countries resulting in low cost surgery and international accreditation of foreign hospitals, to mention a few.
The UAE currently witnesses outbound annual medical travel of nearly $2 billion.
Medical travel workers can work in different types of work settings ranging from small clinics, research centers, nursing homes, hospices, private care, or major hospitals, depending on the assignment.
