pharyngeal arch cartilage

a cartilage bar in the mandibular arch that forms a temporary supporting structure in the embryonic mandible; the cartilagenous primordia of the malleus and incus develop from its proximal end, and it also gives rise to the sphenomandibular and anterior malleolar ligaments.

Meckel’s cartilage

A cartilaginous bar that develops in the first branchial arch and later forms part of the maxilla, mandible and the incus (of the auditory ossicles), the latter two of which remain connected in the adult by the sphenomandibular and anterior malleolar ligaments.
