Etymology: Manuel Marin Amat, Spanish ophthalmologist, b. 1879

an involuntary facial movement in which the eyes close when the mouth opens or when the jaws move in mastication. The phenomenon results from a facial nerve paralysis. Also called inverse Marcus Gunn's syndrome.
