Milk Thistle
A herb used for cirrhosis, cholecystitis, hepatitis, possibly related to its content of a flavonoid derivative, silymarin. Milk thistle has been used as an appetite stimulant, a digestive tonic, for mushroom poisoning and, topically, for psoriasis
Toxicity Milk thistle should not be used in those with liver disease

Silybum marianum,
Silybum marianum
plant member of the family Asteraceae; has a very high feed value but a high nitrate content. May cause nitrate-nitrite poisoning in ruminants. Called also Carduus marianus, variegated thistle, milk thistle, bull thistle, St. Mary's thistle.
