level /lev·el/ (lev´el) relative position, rank, or concentration.
confidence level  the probability that a confidence interval does not contain the population parameter.
level of significance  the probability of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis.

lev·el (lvl)
n.
1. Relative position or rank on a graded scale, such as mental or emotional development.
2. A relative degree, as of intensity or concentration.

l's of consciousness see levels of consciousness.
lowest observed adverse effect level (LOAEL) (lowest observed effect level (LOEL)) in studies of the toxicity of chemicals, the lowest dosage level at which chronic exposure to the substance shows adverse effects; usually calculated for laboratory animals.
no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) (no observed effect level (NOEL)) in studies of the toxicity of chemicals, the highest dosage level at which chronic exposure to the substance shows no adverse effects; usually calculated for laboratory animals.
level of significance a statistical measure that serves as the cutoff point used to determine whether a null hypothesis is retained or rejected; the probability of incorrectly rejecting the null hypothesis (see Type I error).
sterility assurance level (SAL) the probability that a process makes something sterile (see sterilization). An SAL of 10−6 is the recommended probability of survival for organisms on a sterilized device. This level means that there is less than or equal to one chance in a million that an item remains contaminated or nonsterile.

Q. high ESR levels? i had ESR test done after complaining of weakness, repeated upper respiratory infection, fever and weight loss. my ESR rate is extremely high 120 a week ago and today 114. chest x-ray negative, stomach Ultra Sound negative, other test relatively ok.... Any suggestions?

A. Extremely elevated ESR may result from several causes. However, in the absence of identifiable cause, it may be a benign finding. Not essentially relevant to your case, but testing protein electrophoresis as well as blood count and blood cultures (for the presence of endocarditis) seems appropriate. However, it's only a general advice, so clearly consulting a professional is recommended here.

Q. How can I increase my HDL cholesterol levels? My Doctor told me that my cholesterol levels are not good and that I should lower my LDL and higher my HDL. I understand how to lower the cholesterol, but how can I increase the HDL?

A. Here are a few things you can do in order to raise your HDL levels:
Aerobic exercise
Lose weight
Stop smoking
Cut out the trans fatty acids from your diet.
Alcohol: one or two drinks per day can significantly increase HDL levels
Increase the monounsaturated fats in your diet.
Add soluble fiber to your diet.

Q. What is the best way to build up my fitness level? This is Syed, I used to swim four times a week, for nearly 30 minutes each session. However, lately I have not gone, and last time I did go I was wrecked after 15 minutes. What is the best way to build up my fitness level? What swimming fitness program would you recommend?

A. Do 15 minutes like you did this time, then rest and do it again. Next time you go swimming, do 16 minutes, etc until you can go higher. It's like baby steps.

A possible argument is that a larger uncertainty factor still is warranted because we do not know the precise level at which a decrease in iodine uptake becomes adverse, and so it is possible that even small decreases may be adverse in the sense implied by the NOAEL and the lowest observed adverse effect level (LOAEL).
2], and for the lowest observed adverse effect level (LOAEL) to a surface area of 22.
The no observed adverse effect level (NOAEL) or the lowest observed adverse effect level (LOAEL) is used to establish a "safe" dose for humans.
