Paralysis due to WNV infection in 2 patients occurred exclusively in limbs with prior lower motor neuron dysfunction due to lumbar disc herniation (previously resolved with discectomy). Motor deficits and signs following brain-stem stroke may include contralateral hemiparesis and ipsilateral lower motor neuron facial weakness or sensory loss. Examination revealed a complete left lower motor neuron facial palsy; the other cranial nerves were intact. |
